Recently I was asked what kind of songs I like and immediately what came to mind were songs that tell a story. Great opening lines like…
“A little ditty about Jack and Diane…”
“An old cowboy went ridin’ out one dark and windy day…”
“A child arrived just the other day…”
“On a warm summer’s evenin’, on a train bound for nowhere…”
…all have me wondering what happens next. “The Boxer”, “One For My Baby (And One More For The Road)”, “Operator”, “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald”, and “El Paso” are more such songs with stories to tell. Some are epic, sweeping narratives, while others simply tell part of a broader tale. I love these songs!
