Tony Starlight's AM Gold Seventies Soft Rock Show

Tony Starlight's AM Gold Seventies Soft Rock Show

Party like it's 1979! A soft-rockin' tribute to the greats of the AM Dial.

Why Seventies Soft Rock? "The radio was the soundtrack to the 1970s, the era in which I grew up."

"Not every radio had FM capabilities, especially in cars. The AM dial was played in stores and restaurants and in the Country Squire Station Wagon that I rode in, sans seat belts. I absorbed these songs and they are a part of me. A few lines of "Rocket Man" and I'm taken back to a time of polyester, bell bottoms and Evel Knievel.

We are always shocked at how the audience seems to know all the words to every song in our playlist. To hear the crowd sing "even though we ain't got money, I'm so in love with ya honey" or "give me the beat, boys, and free my soul, I wanna get lost in your rock 'n' roll and drift away" is magical. I's like a big campfire sing-along, K-Tel style!" -Tony Starlight, AM Gold Seventies Soft Rock Show

What started as a monthly Neil Diamond Tribute has grown into a soft rock explosion! Tony Starlight makes an evening out of performing songs from the stalwarts of the AM dial in the 1970s. Artists like Elton John, Neil Diamond, Carole King, Jim Croce, Little River Band, Carly Simon, Gordon Lightfoot, Paul Simon, Barry Manilow and Billy Joel. One hit wonders like "Brandy (You're A Fine Girl)", "Dancin' In The Moonlight", "Welcome Back", "Seasons In The Sun" and much, much more.

Tony Starlight's Neil Diamond Experience

Tony shall Neil before you in our multimedia live music tribute to the anointed one!

For the last 18 years, Tony has been performing his tribute to Neil Diamond’s iconic legacy of song. On this night Tony and a six-piece band will perform a loving tribute to Neil Diamond with equal parts heart and laughter. Musically, the performance is spot on. In fact, Tony Starlight sounds so much like Diamond that fans have remarked, “it’s eerie!”

Whether it’s monologues about the lifestyle of a living legend and the burdens of carrying around such enormous talent, or challenging the audience to perform better, or an all-new take on “You Don’t Bring me Flowers”, no other Diamond tribute is this much fun. And we guarantee it’s the only tribute with simulated figure skating! Here’s the kicker: Even people who don’t like Neil Diamond, like this show! You know what you call people who don’t like Neil Diamond, don’t ya? LIARS!

TONY STARLIGHT USES LIVE MUSICIANS ONLY. What you hear is us. There are no backing “tracks” on this, or any other show at Tony Starlight Showroom.

Hello friends,

70s 8 tracks.jpg

Party like it's 1979! A soft-rockin' tribute to the greats of the AM Dial in the ‘70s.

Frank, Dino and the Wham of Sam
"Alone Together" with the All-Star Horns & special guest Shaymus Hanlin

Join Tony Starlight, special guest vocalist Shaymus Hanlin, and an All-Star Swinging Septet as they perform the best of Frank, Dino and Sammy, all in one show. To be clear, this is Tony’s rendering of each one of these dynamic performers, with monologues from their live performances.

Tony & Shaymus will perform Rat Pack classics like:

DINO: "Ain't That A Kick In The Head", "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime", "Houston", and many more.

FRANK: "Fly Me To The Moon", "I've Got You Under My Skin", "Come Fly With Me", "New York, New York", and many more.

SAM: "The Goin’s Great" and "What Kind Of Fool Am I?"

In addition Tony and Shaymus will team up for some classic Rat Pack duets like “Sam’s Song”, “Guys and Dolls” and “Me and My Shadow.”

Tony renders each of the tributes with a great combination of reverence for the material and a tremendous spirit of silly fun. You're also welcome to send along requests to tonystarlight@hotmail.com and they may appear in the show!

P.S. Jazz has only delayed the inevitable. This just gives me more time to train and I will lay a nasty beating on Jazz in May!

Tony vs Jazz.jpg

This is a revival of a grudge match last fought between Tony Starlight and Jazz at the legendary jazz club Jimmy Mak’s. Through music and monologue, Tony will explore the ins and outs of jazz as it is performed in nightclubs, lampooning the fans, the clubs and the players. He won’t shy away from the tough questions, like:

  • What exactly is "jazz face" and is there a cure?

  • How can this be jazz? People are listening.

  • Do I still have to clap after a bass solo?

  • Should the state require a license to "scat"?

  • Is Sinatra Jazz? How about Gershwin? How about the theme to the TV show “Bewitched’?

The second set will be a variety of Tony’s favorites from all genres.

Neil Diamond 79th Birthday Party and Show

Tony shall Neil before you in our multimedia live music tribute to the anointed one on his birthday!

For the last 15 years, Tony has been performing his tribute to Neil Diamond’s iconic legacy of song.

LIARS!

Tony’s AM Gold Seventies Soft Rockin’ New Years Eve -- Two Shows!
Dec
31
to Jan 1

Tony’s AM Gold Seventies Soft Rockin’ New Years Eve -- Two Shows!

  • Tony Starlight Showroom (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Two chances to ring in the new year in soft rockin’ style:
7:00 – 8:40 PM Dinner Show
10:30 PM – 12:40 AM Dessert and Dancing Show

Why Seventies Soft Rock?

“The radio was the soundtrack to the 1970s, the era in which I grew up. Not every radio had FM capabilities, especially in cars. The AM dial was played in stores and restaurants and in the Country Squire Station Wagon that I rode in, sans seat belts. I absorbed these songs and they are a part of me. A few lines of ‘Rocket Man’ and I’m taken back to a time of polyester, bell bottoms and Evel Knievel.”

“We are always shocked at how the audience seems to know all the words to every song in our playlist. To hear the crowd sing “even though we ain’t got money, I’m so in love with you honey” or “give me the beat boys and free my soul, I wanna get lost in your Rock n’ Roll and drift away” is magical. It’s like a big campfire sing-along, K-Tel style!” -Tony Starlight

What started as a monthly Neil Diamond Tribute has grown into a soft rock explosion! Tony Starlight makes an evening out of performing songs from the stalwarts of the AM dial in the 1970s. Artists like Elton John, Neil Diamond, Carol King, Jim Croce, Little River Band, Carly Simon, Gordon Lightfoot, Paul Simon, Barry Manilow and Billy Joel. One hit wonders like “Brandy (You’re A Fine Girl)”, “Dancin’ In The Moonlight”, “Welcome Back”, “Seasons In The Sun” and much, much more.

Craig Bidondo: Pianist
